Android 16 QPR1 Beta 2.1 Released

Google has rolled out Android 16 QPR1 Beta 2.1 for eligible Pixel devices today, June 25, 2025. This is a minor point release following Beta 2, primarily focused on addressing several bugs reported by testers. The update is available via an over-the-air (OTA) update for devices enrolled in the Android Beta for Pixel program.

Key Update Details

This latest beta build carries the version number BP31.250523.010. It includes the June 2025 security patch, bringing the software up to date with the latest security enhancements. The update size is relatively small, around 5MB, indicating its focus on targeted fixes rather than new features.

Bug Fixes Included

The Android 16 QPR1 Beta 2.1 update addresses four specific issues that were impacting the user experience in previous beta builds:

  • Transparent "Approve" Button: Fixes an issue where the "Approve" button in the Device Admin settings was transparent and invisible (Issue #419144521).
  • Lockscreen Sound Toggle: Resolves a bug where the lockscreen sound toggle showed as off, but sounds would still play (Issue #423985494).
  • Intermittent Back Button Failure: Addresses the frustrating problem where the Android back button or swipe gesture would intermittently fail to function, sometimes requiring a device restart (Issues #412691179, #417434626, #420283260). This fix is currently only for beta users, with stable channel users expected to receive it with the July security patches.
  • Launcher Crash: Includes a fix for a crash that occurred in the launcher when swiping up from the bottom of the screen.

Device Availability

The Android 16 QPR1 Beta 2.1 update is available for a wide range of Pixel devices enrolled in the beta program, including:

  • Pixel 6, Pixel 6 Pro, Pixel 6a
  • Pixel 7, Pixel 7 Pro, Pixel 7a
  • Pixel Tablet
  • Pixel Fold
  • Pixel 8, Pixel 8 Pro, Pixel 8a
  • Pixel 9, Pixel 9 Pro, Pixel 9 Pro XL, Pixel 9 Pro Fold, Pixel 9a

Users can check for the update manually by navigating to Settings > System > Software updates > System update > Check for updates.

Known Issues

While this update fixes several bugs, some users have reported encountering other issues on QPR1 Beta builds, such as constant crashing when Identity Check is enabled and audio problems when using the LDAC codec with Bluetooth headsets. These issues do not appear to be resolved in Beta 2.1.

What's Next

This Beta 2.1 release is part of the ongoing testing cycle for Android 16's first Quarterly Platform Release. The stable version of Android 16 QPR1 is anticipated to be released in September, likely as the next Pixel Feature Drop, bringing these fixes and potentially new features to all supported Pixel devices.
